The COVID-19 pandemic: Stay Home policy and exposure to risks of infection among Nigerians

David O. Akeju et al.

Summary: This study investigates compliance with the Stay Home policy and exposure to COVID-19 in Nigeria. The findings suggest that residents in areas with complete lockdown were more likely to comply with the policy, while compliance was lower in areas with partial lockdown. Market places, classified as high-risk zones, were the most visited. Gender, marital status, and employment status were associated with compliance and exposure to COVID-19. Fear, anxiety, and misperception played major roles in compliance.

Public mobility data enables COVID-19 forecasting and management at local and global scales

Cornelia Ilin et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that analyzing publicly available data on human mobility can evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical interventions and forecast the spread of COVID-19. The approach is simple, transparent, requires minimal assumptions, and uses basic machine learning methods to generate forecasts of COVID-19 cases. The findings show that NPIs are associated with significant reductions in human mobility and changes in mobility can be used to forecast COVID-19 infections.

Mobility network models of COVID-19 explain inequities and inform reopening

Serina Chang et al.

Summary: The study introduces a SEIR model that integrates fine-grained, dynamic mobility networks to simulate the spread of COVID-19 in the ten largest US metropolitan areas. By accurately fitting the real case trajectory, the model identifies the effectiveness of restricting maximum occupancy at locations for curbing infections and reveals the contributions of mobility-related mechanisms to higher infection rates among disadvantaged socioeconomic and racial groups.
