Fournier's Gangrene under Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter-2 Inhibitors Therapy in Gynecological Patients

Adriana Serrano Olave et al.

Summary: Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a serious pathology in the perineum and genital region, and has been associated with SGLT-2 inhibitor use. The compilation of reported cases can help establish the relationship between the two. FG should not be underestimated in gynecology, and requires surgical and antibiotic treatment.

Practical Review of the Current Management of Fournier's Gangrene

Maria T. Huayllani et al.

Summary: Fournier's gangrene is a rapidly progressing disease that requires urgent debridement, fluid resuscitation, IV antibiotics, and reconstruction for treatment. Early initiation of treatment, consideration of multiple variables, and selection of appropriate reconstruction methods based on surgeons' expertise, patient preference, and available resources are crucial.

Factors for In-Hospital Mortality in 145 Male Patients with Fournier's Gangrene: A 10-Year Observational Study from a Single Tertiary Referral Center in Indonesia

Yufi Aulia Azmi et al.

Summary: This 10-year observational study from Indonesia aimed to identify the risk factors for in-hospital mortality in male patients with Fournier's gangrene (FG). It was found that diabetes mellitus (DM) and Clostridium perfringens infection were independent risk factors for mortality.

How likely is septic shock to develop in a patient with Fournier's gangrene? A risk prediction model based on a 7-year retrospective study

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify potential risk factors and develop a prediction model for septic shock in patients with Fournier's gangrene (FG). The results identified temperature, platelets, total bilirubin (TBIL) level, and pneumatosis on pelvic computed tomography/magnetic resonance images as the main linear effects, and Na+ x TBIL as the interaction effect. The developed model can assist clinicians in identifying critically ill patients with FG and prevent them from reaching septic shock.

The role of vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) therapy in the management of FOURNIER'S gangrene: a retrospective multi-institutional cohort study

Valerio Iacovelli et al.

Summary: The study found that vacuum assisted closure therapy may be more beneficial for wound closure and overall survival in patients with Fournier's gangrene compared to conventional dressings. Patients with disseminated Fournier's gangrene who did not receive vacuum assisted closure therapy showed the lowest overall survival rate.

Hyperbaric Oxygenation in the Treatment of Fournier's Gangrene: A Systematic Review

Laila Schneidewind et al.

Summary: This systematic review compared the treatment of FG with or without the use of HBO as an adjunct therapy. Despite the potential of HBO as an adjunct in FG treatment, further studies are challenging due to the rarity of FG and availability of HBO, and risk of bias was assessed as moderate to high.

Safety of SGLT2 Inhibitors: A Pharmacovigilance Study from 2013 to 2021 Based on FAERS

Xiang Zhou et al.

Summary: The study investigated the distribution of adverse events related to SGLT2 inhibitors in different systems and identified important medical event signals. Most SGLT2 inhibitor-related important medical events occurred during monotherapy, with common strong signals including diabetic ketoacidosis and ketoacidosis. Unexpected safety signals such as cellulitis and nephrolithiasis were detected.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy decreases mortality due to Fournier's gangrene: a retrospective comparative study

Omar Feres et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of traditional treatment with adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on the evolution of patients with Fournier's gangrene. The results showed that adjunctive HBOT combined with traditional treatment could reduce mortality in patients with Fournier's gangrene.
