Systematic combination of insulation biomaterials to enhance energy and environmental efficiency in buildings

Summary: Thermal insulation based on low energy embodied biomaterials is a promising alternative to reduce energy demand in buildings and help achieve the 2050 EU climate goals. However, these materials are not widely available in the insulation market due to reasons such as more laborious implementation compared to commercial alternatives. This study introduces a systematic method to generate efficient combinations of biomaterials with reduced cost and environmental impacts, which can be manufactured as commercial sandwich or solid panels and fiber mats.
