Association between long COVID, functional activity, and health-related quality of life in older adults

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Long COVID, level of physical activity, and functional decline on older adults' health-related quality of life post-COVID-19. The results revealed six factors to be predictors of physical health at 6 months post-COVID-19, including fatigue, level of physical activity, worsened pain, difficulties in activities of daily living, and cognitive-communication problems.

However, COVID-19 data were inconsistent across different parts of Europe, particularly between Eastern Europe and others. Considering the natural immunity acquired during the past three years and the high vaccination coverage in Europe, it is important to reconsider the definition of suspected cases and establish more specific testing criteria.

Construct validity of the Spanish version of the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status scale and validation of the web-based form in COVID-19 survivors

Summary: This study assessed the psychometric characteristics and test-retest reliability of the Spanish Post-COVID-19 Functional Status (PCFS) scale in survivors. The results showed that both the paper-based and web-based forms of the PCFS scale had adequate construct validity, and the web-based form had substantial test-retest reliability. Functional status was correlated with health-related quality of life, activities of daily living limitations, and psychological state.

Evaluation of the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status (PCFS) Scale in a cohort of patients recovering from hypoxemic SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia

Summary: This study evaluated the ability of the PCFS Scale to detect functional limitations and its correlation with quality of life in patients 2-9 months after hospitalization for COVID-19 hypoxemic pneumonia. The results showed a high correlation between the PCFS Scale and multiple questionnaires and tests, making it a quick and global tool to evaluate functional limitations related to persistent symptoms following COVID-19 pneumonia. The PCFS Scale seems to be suitable for screening patients who require careful follow-up even in the absence of pulmonary sequelae.
