In 2021, open access articles from high-charging parent journals accounted for 72% of the total open access articles in parent and mirror journals. Despite the significant reduction in charges for mirror journals, there was a relatively small increase in the number of articles. These findings suggest that many authors do not significantly respond to changes in article processing charges.
