Summary: As climate change poses an increasingly urgent threat, the importance of green innovation and finance in achieving sustainable development and reducing environmental pollution has been emphasized. However, previous research studies have overlooked the impact of green finance initiatives and innovations on trade-adjusted CO2 emissions. Therefore, this study fills this research gap by examining the effect of green finance, green innovation, environmental policy stringency, international trade, and economic growth on carbon emissions in OECD countries. The findings highlight the significant role of green finance and innovation in reducing carbon emissions and emphasize the need for policymakers and regulators to prioritize these factors in order to achieve sustainable environmental goals.

Summary: This study investigates the spillover effects in the European fossil fuel, renewable energy, and carbon trade markets using the quantile VAR network. The results show that extreme market conditions have a stronger impact on the connectedness network, with renewable energy and carbon markets being the main contributors. However, under normal circumstances, fossil fuels play the most significant role. Therefore, investors should adopt dynamic and flexible portfolios, while governments should implement initiatives to support the European Union carbon trading system and energy transition.

Summary: The evolution of green financing is crucial for sustainable development in emerging markets, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) facing funding constraints. This study examines the relationship between sustainable bank financing and SMEs using a comprehensive dataset of commercial banks in the BRIC countries over eleven years. The results show that there is a positive relationship between green SME lending and net interest margin, and a negative relationship between sustainable lending to small firms and the default risk of the banks. These findings highlight the financial incentives for banks to extend sustainable credit to SMEs and contribute to sustainability goals.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of green credit (GC) on air quality in China using the bootstrap sub-sample rolling-window Granger causality test. The results show that the effects of GC on the environment vary during its infancy and mature stages. As the GC system improves, the positive effects on air quality become evident. Additionally, the study emphasizes the feedback effect of air quality on GC policy. These findings are important for policymakers to identify flaws in the GC system and develop well-designed policies for sustainable economic development.

Summary: This article investigates the role of renewable energy (RE) in reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a rolling-window Granger causality test. The study finds that the negative impact of RE on CO2 emissions indicates its increasing potential as a replacement for traditional energy sources. These results align with the energy-environment model, demonstrating the excellent performance of RE in achieving carbon neutrality.

Summary: This research examines the impact of economic policy uncertainty on renewable energy in G7 countries and identifies a negative relationship across all quantiles. The study reveals that the effect is more significant in upper quantiles, and the coefficients indicate varying effects. Additionally, it finds that Canada, France, Germany, the UK, and the U.S. experience negative impacts of economic policy uncertainty on renewable energy, while Italy and Japan observe negative effects in medium to upper quantiles and a positive impact from renewable energy to economic policy uncertainty in higher to lower quantiles. The study also highlights the positive impact of technological innovation on renewable energy in the medium quantiles for all G7 countries.

Summary: The extraction of natural resources has significant negative impacts on global emissions and biodiversity. Emerging markets, highly dependent on natural resources for economic growth, need to address this issue urgently. This study examines the incentives for the banking sector to reduce lending to high emitters and promote sustainability. The results show a negative relationship between lending to high emission firms and banking spreads, indicating that limiting loans to resource emitters can motivate banks and contribute to sustainable development.

Summary: The Covid-19 pandemic has hindered the transition to sustainability and net-zero targets, but financial institutions can play a crucial role in supporting green recovery. Increasing green exposure and considering environmental factors in lending can benefit banks by improving profitability and reducing default risk. The impact of green financing is particularly significant for smaller banks, providing new earnings avenues and risk mitigation. These findings have important implications for regulators, monetary authorities, and the banking sector, as green financing can lead to more efficient and resilient financial systems.

Summary: The rapid industrialization and modernization of China's economy have worsened climate change caused by carbon emissions. Green investments can reduce carbon emissions, while natural resource extraction, financial sector development, and energy investments tend to increase carbon emissions. Bidirectional causation is observed between carbon emissions and other macroeconomic aggregates considered in the study.
