Maternal body mass index and risk of obstetric, maternal and neonatal outcomes: A cohort study of nulliparous women with spontaneous onset of labor

Rebecka Dalbye et al.

Summary: This study found that obese women in early pregnancy are at an increased risk of obstetric interventions and maternal complications. The risk of intrapartum cesarean section was highest in women in obesity classes II and III. However, there were no associations between maternal BMI and neonatal outcomes.

Obesity can offset the cardiometabolic benefits of gestational exercise

Maria Perales et al.

Summary: Pregnancy exercise can prevent excessive gestational weight gain, gestational diabetes mellitus, and hypertension, but there are individuals who do not respond positively to gestational exercise. Pre-pregnancy obesity is the strongest predictor of non-responsiveness, while higher education level can reduce the risk of non-responsiveness to gestational diabetes mellitus.
