Preseason Injury Characteristics in Spanish Professional Futsal Players: The LNFS Project

Manuel Lopez-Segovia et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the incidence and characteristics of injuries among professional Spanish futsal players during the preseason period, and to compare injury-related variables in the context of competition and training. The results showed that the most injured body part was the ankle, followed by the hip/groin and knee. The most common type of injury was muscle rupture/tear/strain.

Quantifying balance deficit in people with ankle fracture six months after surgical intervention through the Y-Balance test

Diana Salas-Gomez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess single-leg dynamic balance in patients with bimalleolar ankle fracture using the Y-Balance test (YBT), and analyze the impact of ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) and hip strength on balance. The results showed that the YBT is a reliable tool for quantifying balance impairments in patients with ankle fractures, and that ankle dorsiflexion and hip strength play a significant role in balance performance.

Which Functional Tests and Self-Reported Questionnaires Can Help Clinicians Make Valid Return to Sport Decisions in Patients With Chronic Ankle Instability? A Narrative Review and Expert Opinion

Brice Picot et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the most relevant functional performance tests and self-reported questionnaires to guide clinicians in their return to sport (RTS) decision-making for patients with chronic ankle instability (CAI). The results showed that the single leg stance test on firm surfaces, the modified version of the star excursion balance test, the side hop test, and the figure-of-8 test were the most relevant functional performance tests for targeting ankle impairments in patients with CAI. A combination of the Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM) and the Ankle Ligament Reconstruction-Return to Sport after Injury (ALR-RSI) questionnaires were the most relevant self-reported questionnaires to assess patient function in the context of CAI. However, further studies are needed to evaluate the relevance of the proposed test cluster in RTS decision-making following lateral ankle sprain injury and CAI.

The Cut-Off Score of Four Clinical Tests to Quantify Balance Impairment in Individuals with Chronic Ankle Instability

Nontawit Udompanich et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the discriminative validity of four clinical tests for quantifying balance impairment in individuals with chronic ankle instability, with good to excellent sensitivity and specificity values, and significant cut-off scores to differentiate balance performance among participants.

Epidemiology of injuries in elite male and female futsal: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Inaki Ruiz-Perez et al.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the incidence of injuries in futsal players through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed that elite male and female futsal players are at a substantial risk of sustaining injuries, especially during matches. Additionally, male players had a significantly higher match incidence rate in international tournaments compared to national leagues.
