Changing patterns of pulmonary abnormalities in rheumatoid arthritis

Ayae Tanaka et al.

Summary: This study identified the existing and changing patterns of pulmonary abnormalities in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using retrospective cohort analysis. The study found that 70% of patients had pulmonary abnormalities, with interstitial lung disease observed in 39% and airway disease in 55%. Different pulmonary abnormalities commonly coexisted in various patterns within the same patient. During the observation period, 172 pulmonary abnormalities changed, with 115 new abnormalities emerging, 42 worsening, and 25 improving. Correlations were observed between pre-existing and new/worsening abnormalities at individual and regional levels.

Small airway disease and its predictors in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Rajnish Singh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the prevalence of small airway disease (SAD) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and the factors influencing it. The results showed that SAD was present in one-third of the patients with RA, even in those with short disease duration, low to moderate disease activity, and no respiratory symptoms.
