Integrating plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) into household fleets- factors influencing miles traveled by PEV owners in California

Debapriya Chakraborty et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the household vehicle miles traveled (VMT) of Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) in California, finding that factors such as population density, built environment, attitudes, electric driving range, and infrastructure access influence PEV VMT. A lower electricity price at home may lead to a higher share of PEV VMT in total household VMT, but without rebound effect observed. The study suggests that the factors influencing PEV VMT are similar to those observed for conventional gasoline vehicles.

The application of XGBoost and SHAP to examining the factors in freight truck-related crashes: An exploratory analysis

Chao Yang et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the relationships between the built environment factors and the spatial distribution of freight truck-related crashes in the Los Angeles region from 2010 to 2019. The XGBoost model shows that variables related to demographics, land uses, and road network are highly correlated to all three types of injury in freight truck-related crashes. The study highlights the importance of understanding the differences in modeling mechanisms between the XGBoost model and traditional statistical models, providing insights for transport planners to address emerging freight truck-related traffic safety issues in local communities.

Electric vehicle energy consumption prediction using stacked generalization: an ensemble learning approach

Irfan Ullah et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an ensemble stacked generalization (ESG) approach for better prediction of electric vehicles (EVs) energy consumption. By combining multiple base regression models into one meta-regressor, ESG enhances model prediction and reduces model variance. The results demonstrate that ESG is more robust in predicting EVs' energy consumption and outperforms other models, providing essential guidance for decision-makers and practitioners in urban areas.

A comparative study of machine learning classifiers for injury severity prediction of crashes involving three-wheeled motorized rickshaw

Muhammad Ijaz et al.

Summary: Motorcycles and motorcyclists have been identified as potential contributors to the high liability of vulnerable road users, with vulnerable road users constituting the highest share of road traffic accidents in developing countries. Despite the popularity of motorized three-wheeled rickshaws in Pakistani cities, little research has been conducted on factors affecting their injury severity. This study utilized machine learning algorithms to analyze the injury severity of these vehicles, revealing predictive factors such as lighting conditions, young drivers, high-speed limits, weekdays, off-peak times, and shiny weather conditions.
