Thirty years of educational research in Saudi Arabia: a bibliometric study

Mohammed Ali Mohsen et al.

Summary: This article uses bibliometric analysis to study the contributions of Saudi institutions in the education field and their international collaborations. The study found a significant increase in the number of educational research articles published in the past decade, with scientific disciplines education and education research being the most frequently published categories. Saudi Arabia had the highest number of international collaborations with the US, but articles collaborated with Germany had the highest impact. King Saud University was the most productive institution in terms of both quantity and quality of published articles.

Learning about history in immersive virtual reality: does immersion facilitate learning?

Jocelyn Parong et al.

Summary: The study found that participants who viewed the video lesson performed better on transfer tests than those who viewed the IVR lesson. The IVR lesson caused higher emotional arousal but lower cognitive engagement. This suggests that immersive environments may create excessive positive emotions, which distract from necessary cognitive processing during the lesson and harm performance on subsequent tests of learning outcomes.

The Cognitive Affective Model of Immersive Learning (CAMIL): a Theoretical Research-Based Model of Learning in Immersive Virtual Reality

Guido Makransky et al.

Summary: Recently, there has been a growing interest in and implementation of immersive virtual reality (IVR)-based lessons in education and training, leading to numerous studies on the topic. The Cognitive Affective Model of Immersive Learning (CAMIL) synthesizes existing research on IVR education to describe the learning process in IVR. The model suggests that instructional methods from research with less immersive media can be generalized to learning in IVR, but also highlights the importance of certain methods that are specifically relevant to IVR.
