Bullying and turnover intentions: how creative employees overcome perceptions of dysfunctional organizational politics

Dirk De Clercq et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between workplace bullying and turnover intentions, highlighting the mediating role of perceived organizational politics and the moderating role of creativity. It reveals that workplace bullying leads to turnover intentions due to employees' perceptions of strong organizational politics, which can be mitigated by their creative skills. For managers, it is crucial to address the organizational climate endorsing dysfunctional politics as a critical factor stimulating employees' desires to leave, while also encouraging creativity to counteract this effect.

Killing two birds with one stone: how intervening when witnessing bullying at the workplace may help both target and the acting observer

Morten Birkeland Nielsen et al.

Summary: The study found that witnessing bullying at work was associated with an increase in subsequent levels of mental distress among the observers, but this association became insignificant when adjusting for the observers' own exposure to bullying. Intervening against bullying moderated the relationship between observations of bullying and mental health problems. Observers who did not try to intervene reported a significant increase in mental health problems at follow-up, while those who did intervene did not experience significant changes in levels of mental health problems.
