Enhancing Creativity With Combined Transcranial Direct Current and Random Noise Stimulation of the Left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex and Inferior Frontal Gyrus

Summary: Creativity is a fundamental human accomplishment, and the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and inferior frontal gyrus (IFG) play important roles in controlling flexibility and persistence in the brain. This study found that applying electrical stimulation to the left DLPFC and inhibiting the left IFG significantly improved creativity scores. Overall, DLPFC-IFG stimulation resulted in higher scores in all tests of creativity.

The default network is causally linked to creative thinking

Summary: Creative thinking plays a crucial role in human evolution. The default network (DN) is thought to be associated with creative thinking. This study explored the causal link between DN and creative thinking by using direct cortical stimulation. The results showed that stimulation of DN node decreased the ability to produce alternate uses, but not the originality of uses produced. This is the first study to demonstrate a causal relationship between DN and creative thinking.
