Developing absorptive capacity (ACAP) can promote circularity within organizations. The study highlights the relationship between ACAP and organizational performance, and demonstrates that ACAP significantly facilitates the implementation of a circular economy and internalization of an environmental management system (EMS), leading to improved overall performance. The research expands academic literature by framing the circular economy with ACAP theory and offers insights for practitioners on identifying opportunities from a circular economy and the effect of internalizing EMSs on economic performance, environmental performance, and reputation.
