Evaluating citizens' satisfaction on the urban environmental management through a multi-criteria approach: An application experience in Sicily

Salvatore Corrente et al.

Summary: City appearance is a crucial factor in determining citizens' well-being and quality of life. In this study, the Multicriteria Satisfaction Analysis (MUSA) method was used to assess citizen satisfaction with urban development and management in Catania, Italy. A systems model of SDG target influence on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Carl C. Anderson et al.

Summary: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) tackle various issues ranging from poverty to climate change and their interactions within the system are complex. Efforts to achieve one goal can either support or hinder the progress towards other goals. Research shows that more SDGs and their corresponding targets are likely to act as levers towards achieving other goals.

Economics without ecology: How the SDGs fail to align socioeconomic development with environmental sustainability

Markus Hametner

Summary: Science is warning that the Earth is on a trajectory towards environmental collapse. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted to reconcile human activity with planetary boundaries. A study of European Union (EU) member states found that while there has been socioeconomic progress, there has also been environmental degradation. The research suggests that stronger focus on the environmental dimension of the SDGs is needed.

A systematic literature review of life cycle assessments in the durum wheat sector

Silvia Zingale et al.

Summary: This paper highlights the issues with the global food system in terms of nutrition, climate change, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss. It focuses specifically on the cereal sector and the negative impact it has on biodiversity and ecosystem functions. The authors conducted a systematic literature review of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) in the durum wheat sector to identify environmental hotspots and improvement potentials. They found that the cultivation phase is the primary environmental hotspot for durum wheat-derived food products and suggested several solutions for mitigation and improvement. The paper also identifies gaps in the literature, such as the lack of attention to organic farming and the nutritional properties of durum wheat. Overall, the review is important for researchers, practitioners, farmers, policymakers, and stakeholders as it supports the promotion of environmental sustainability in the durum wheat sector.

Quynh Do et al.

Summary: The article discusses the importance of reducing food waste under the Circular Economy (CE) framework, highlighting its impact on achieving Sustainable Development Goals and the need for further research in this area. Through a systematic literature review, a taxonomy is presented focusing on various aspects of food loss and waste (FLW) under CE, including supply and quantification, practices and technological aspects, logistics and supply chain management, market demand, sustainability impact assessment (SIA), and policy and legislation. This classification aims to guide key stakeholders in exploring new business opportunities, setting up support strategies and development plans, promoting waste-oriented bioeconomy, and raising awareness and active involvement in CE among consumers.
