Methodology for laboratory-based antimicrobial resistance surveillance in animals

Md Al Amin et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global public health problem that affects human and animal health, agriculture, aquaculture, and the environment. This review study focuses on the structure of AMR surveillance programs, with an emphasis on laboratory-based testing and characterization methods. Effective surveillance programs require top management for fund mobilization, planning, and coordination of surveillance activities. Reference laboratories play a key role in developing standardized test methods and providing training, while sentinel laboratories are responsible for sample receiving and initial testing. Conformity and harmonization in testing procedures should be achieved by following standard guidelines.

The Prevalence of Klebsiella spp. Associated With Bovine Mastitis in China and Its Antimicrobial Resistance Rate: A Meta-Analysis

Kai Liu et al.

Summary: Understanding the distribution and antimicrobial resistance rates of Klebsiella spp. associated with bovine mastitis in China is crucial for treatment decision-making and control programs. This meta-analysis revealed a high prevalence of Klebsiella spp. in China, particularly in South China and clinical cases. The study also found high levels of antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella spp. towards various antibiotics. These findings have important implications for the development and implementation of strategies to control bovine mastitis caused by Klebsiella spp. in China.

Induction of mastitis by cow-to-mouse fecal and milk microbiota transplantation causes microbiome dysbiosis and genomic functional perturbation in mice

M. Nazmul Hoque et al.

Summary: This study successfully induced mastitis in mice through fecal microbiota transplantation and milk microbiota transplantation, resulting in dysbiosis of the microbiome and perturbations in genomic functions. The results suggest significant differences in microbiome composition between cow and mouse mastitis, indicating a higher discrepancy in mastitis-associated microbiomes among lactating mammals.
