Differential Impact of Autonomous Vehicle Malfunctions on Human Trust

Manuel Seet et al.

Summary: The study found that trust levels significantly decreased in subjects during malfunctions in full automation driving mode of autonomous vehicles, while it remained stable in conditional automation driving mode. EEG analysis revealed enhanced approach motivation and disrupted executive cognition during malfunctions in full automation mode, with no neurocognitive disruptions observed in conditional automation mode malfunctions.

Public acceptance of driver state monitoring for automated vehicles: Applying the UTAUT framework

Joseph Smyth et al.

Summary: Driver state monitoring (DSM) systems aim to measure driver/occupant state with factors such as fatigue, workload, attentiveness, and wellbeing. As vehicles move towards higher levels of automation, the importance of these systems is expected to increase. Uncertainty around public perception of these systems, potentially influenced by concerns over privacy, data storage, perceived utility, and reliability, poses potential threats.

Emotion-Attention Interaction in the Right Hemisphere

Kaisa M. Hartikainen

Summary: Research indicates a dominant role of the right hemisphere in emotion, attention, and arousal functions, especially prioritizing emotionally arousing stimuli with survival value. Task performance may be impacted when attention is captured by unpleasant emotional stimuli due to right hemisphere damage or interference.

The Acceptance of Independent Autonomous Vehicles and Cooperative Vehicle-Highway Autonomous Vehicles

Shuang Zhang et al.

Summary: Social influence is the strongest predictor of acceptance for independent autonomous vehicles, while effort expectation is most significant for cooperative vehicle-highway autonomous vehicles. In addition, risks, performance, existing traffic conditions, and personal innovation awareness also significantly affect autonomous driving acceptance.

Investigating consumer acceptance of autonomous technologies: the case of self-driving automobiles

Christian V. Baccarella et al.

Summary: The study confirms the positive impact of perceived usefulness on consumers' intentions to adopt self-driving cars. Individuals with a negative attitude towards technologies may fear their inability to handle new technology. Moreover, mediation analyses show that perceived ease of use and usefulness explain the indirect effects of novelty seeking and technology anxiety on adoption intentions.
