Open innovation and sustainable competitive advantage: The role of organizational learning

Summary: With intensifying competition and increasing dependence on external partners, open innovation has become an inevitable and prevalent strategy to achieve long-term competitive advantage. However, the mechanism through which open innovation translates into sustainable competitive advantage has not been well examined. This study investigates the mediating role of ambidextrous organizational learning and the moderating role of knowledge management capability in the relationship between open innovation and sustainable competitive advantage. Empirical findings based on data collected from 269 Chinese high-tech enterprises in 2021 show that open innovation contributes to sustainable competitive advantage through enhancing organizational learning and that knowledge management capability moderates this relationship.

Big data analytics capability as a mediator in the impact of open innovation on firm performance

Summary: This study examines the mediating role of big data analytics capability (BDAC) in the relationship between open innovation (OI) and firm performance. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze survey data from 112 firms. The findings show that BDAC has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between OI and financial performance, and between OI and non-financial performance, with a stronger mediation in the former relationship. This study contributes to a broader understanding of the role of BDAC in the relationship between OI and firm performance.
