Functional outcomes following fixation of a marginal distal radius fracture with two commonly used volar locking plates: a retrospective cohort study

Yin-Ming Huang et al.

Summary: This study compared the functional outcomes of two different implants in patients with marginal distal radius fractures and found that the Acumed Acu-Loc VLP design provided better functional recovery compared to the Synthes 2.4 mm LCP.

Flexor tendon rupture after volar plating of distal radius fracture: A systematic review of the literature

A. Floquet et al.

Summary: Flexor tendon rupture after volar plate fixation of distal radius fracture is rare and mainly caused by mechanical factors. Studies suggest that plate positioning beyond the watershed line, consolidation with posterior tilt, plate thickness, or low palmar cortical angle may lead to flexor tendon rupture. Hardware should be removed promptly if impingement or signs of tenosynovitis are present postoperatively.

Adult Distal Radius Fracture Management

A. Bobby Chhabra et al.

Summary: Distal radius fractures are common and the optimal treatment is still controversial. Surgeons need to consider multiple factors and be skilled in various techniques to customize fixation patterns. Recognition of potential dangers and use of intraoperative imaging techniques are crucial in mitigating complications and achieving successful rehabilitation outcomes.

Volar RIM Plate Rarely Causes Flexor Tendon Complications in a Short Period Despite Its Plate Prominence over the Watershed Line: A Descriptive Study

Kazuo Hayakawa et al.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed 84 patients who underwent volar locking plate fixation and found that despite its prominence over the watershed line, the smooth profile of the RIM plate helps reduce the potential risk of flexor tendon damage. Symptomatic and asymptomatic tendon problems were rarely reported in RIM.
