Vitamin D status and its association with parathyroid hormone in 23,134 outpatients

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D with intact parathyroid hormone in outpatient population in Germany. The results showed an inverse correlation between 25-hydroxyvitamin D and intact parathyroid hormone, which was independent of age, sex, creatinine, calcium, and phosphate. However, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D was only positively associated with intact parathyroid hormone in women and in the subgroup with lower 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

Polycystic ovary syndrome and the risk of endometrial, ovarian and breast cancer: An updated meta-analysis

Summary: This updated meta-analysis examined the risk of endometrial, ovarian, and breast cancer in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The results showed that PCOS was significantly associated with endometrial cancer, but not ovarian or breast cancer. However, subgroup analysis suggested that PCOS may increase the risk of ovarian cancer in younger women.

Summary: Recent literature highlights the importance of vitamin D (VD) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). VD deficiency is common in women with PCOS, especially those with a higher weight. Hypovitaminosis is a risk factor for glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, and increased diabetes risk. VD deficiency may also be related to hyperandrogenism in PCOS patients. VD plays a crucial role in various physiological functions and has potential effects on glucose homeostasis, hormonal status, lipid concentrations, and inflammation and oxidative stress. VD supplementation has been shown to improve insulin resistance, lipid metabolism, and response to ovulation induction in PCOS women.
