Sensory-processing sensitivity and COVID-19 stress in a young population: The mediating role of resilience

Shuhei Iimura

Summary: Psychologists are increasingly concerned about the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of adolescents. A study in Japan found that higher sensitivity is weakly correlated with COVID-19 stress, but resilience can buffer this negative relationship. This suggests that enhancing resilience may mitigate the vulnerability of higher sensitivity during the pandemic.

Genetic architecture of Environmental Sensitivity reflects multiple heritable components: a twin study with adolescents

Elham Assary et al.

Summary: This study examined the genetic architecture of Environmental Sensitivity (ES) through twin design methodology. The heritability of sensitivity was found to be 0.47, with genetic influences on sensitivity to negative experiences distinct from those on sensitivity to positive aspects of the environment. The correlation between sensitivity, neuroticism, and extraversion was largely explained by shared genetic influences, with unique environmental influences accounting for differences between these traits.
