Integrating the bright and dark sides of leadership: An investigation of the intragroup and intergroup effects of leader group prototypicality

Yongyi Liang et al.

Summary: Drawing on social identity theory, this study presents an integrative framework that simultaneously investigates the positive and negative effects of leader group prototypicality. The findings suggest that leader group prototypicality enhances group members' identification, leading to improved group performance and decreased engagement in intergroup citizenship behavior. Moreover, the relative leader power influences the relationship between leader group prototypicality and its outcomes.

The relationship between stressors of temporary work and counterproductive work behaviour

Jamie Striler et al.

Summary: Research shows that temporary work quality varies greatly, and temporary workers may experience harmful work stressors that lead to detrimental outcomes. Economic hardship, interpersonal conflict, and organizational constraints can lead to emotional exhaustion in temporary workers, subsequently resulting in increased counterproductive work behaviors. Higher job insecurity and interpersonal conflict levels may also lead to increased moral disengagement, contributing to more frequent CWBs.

Advancing the social identity theory of leadership: A meta-analytic review of leader group prototypicality

Niklas K. Steffens et al.

Summary: This research contributes to the social identity approach to leadership by conducting a meta-analysis on leader group prototypicality. The findings suggest that prototypicality has a moderate-to-large impact on evaluative and behavioral outcomes, with stronger effects for leaders who are perceived as ideal prototypes rather than average group members. The study also highlights the importance of factors such as follower group identification and leader group-serving behavior in influencing the relationship between leader prototypicality and outcomes.
