Can policies aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions help mitigate haze pollution? An empirical analysis of the emissions trading system

Huachao Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of China's ETS pilot program on haze pollution, finding that the ETS effectively alleviates haze pollution in pilot areas and neighboring provinces. The study shows a win-win situation of controlling haze pollution and promoting CO2 emission reduction in the pilot areas.

Development of an SBM-ML model for the measurement of green total factor productivity: The case of pearl river delta urban agglomeration

Ye Li et al.

Summary: The rapid economic development in China has negatively impacted the ecosystem. In the affluent and innovative Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration, balancing economic development and environmental protection is crucial for local green development. By studying the Green Total Factor Productivity (GTFP) of the PRDUA, including resources and environmental factors, it was found that GTFP of all cities in the region increased in a wave-like trend over time, with Shenzhen consistently at the top. Furthermore, the GTFP disparity between cities in PRDUA has been narrowing over time.

Tinghui Li et al.

Summary: This study explores the impact of environmental regulation policies on promoting the transformation and optimization of industrial structure to improve green total factor productivity (GTFP). The results show that environmental regulation policies can improve GTFP, with regional variations in the promoting effect of these policies. Moreover, the quality and quantity of industrial structure optimization can weaken or strengthen the promoting effect of environmental regulation policies on GTFP.

The win-win ability of environmental protection and economic development during China?s transition

Miao Wang et al.

Summary: The study indicates that China's current green development transition can achieve a win-win situation for environmental protection and economic development, but this ability is gradually weakening. The best time for such transition in the past decade was in 2011 and 2012, but for many provinces, this transition may have negative impacts on the economy in the short term. In the future, under high, medium, and low-growth scenarios, the decay cycle of the green development transition is expected to end in 2025, 2027, and 2032.
