Prevalence and predictors of common mental disorders among Syrian refugees in Istanbul, Turkey: a cross-sectional study

Summary: The war in Syria has led to a severe refugee crisis, with Turkey hosting the largest number of Syrian refugees who are at increased risk of common mental disorders due to their exposure to war, violence, and post-displacement stressors. This study found that anxiety, depression, and PTSD symptoms are prevalent among Syrian refugees in Turkey, with factors such as gender, economic difficulties, previous trauma experiences, and unmet social support needs predicting common mental disorders. Comprehensive health and social services are essential to address the mental health needs of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
