Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Advanced Science and Mathematics Achievement During Elementary School

Paul L. Morgan et al.

Summary: This study analyzed a population-based cohort to investigate the racial and ethnic disparities in advanced science and mathematics achievement during elementary school. The results showed that family socioeconomic status and students' achievement in science, mathematics, and reading in kindergarten were important factors that explained these disparities. The study suggests that policies designed to increase racial and ethnic representation in STEM fields may need to start as early as elementary school.

Do Students in Gifted Programs Perform Better? Linking Gifted Program Participation to Achievement and Nonachievement Outcomes

Christopher Redding et al.

Summary: This study utilized nationally representative data to investigate the impact of school gifted programs on elementary students' academic outcomes.
