Additionally, perceived behavioral control may be less relevant when traveling involves higher health risks.

Robin Chark et al.

Summary: The study examines the psychophysiological correlates of loss aversion in hotel choice, finding evidence of consumers' reluctance to switch to higher quality hotels and the emotional arousal associated with such a switch. The reaction time data suggests that the swiftness of decision to trade up is linked with greater vigilance and attention, rather than cognitive conflict between options.

Option framing for upselling tourism services: Does cognitive availability prevent irrational choices?

Veronica Feder Mayer et al.

Summary: This article examines the impact of option framing and cognitive load on consumer choices of tourism services. Two experimental studies involving 561 leisure travel consumers were conducted, providing strong evidence that the downgrade framing strategy leads to consumers choosing more options and spending more money. The results also revealed that cognitive availability does not prevent consumers from making irrational choices. These findings suggest that decision-making in leisure trips is even more susceptible to cognitive biases and contextual influences than previously believed, expanding the existing literature on behavioral economics in tourism.
