Modeling a Pre-Touch Reaction Distance around Socially Touchable Upper Body Parts of a Robot

Dario Alfonso Cuello Mejia et al.

Summary: This study analyzed pre-touch reaction distance based on human-human interaction, finding that the distance around hands is smaller than around shoulders and elbows, and that speed and acclimation affect the distance. Gender and approach side have no significant impact on pre-touch reaction distance. These results were implemented in a male-looking android which reacted accordingly.
