Women's ability to negotiate safer sex with partners by contraceptive status among a nationally representative sample of married women in Nigeria

Summary: Existing studies have shown that negotiation of safer sex affects contraceptive use, and it is expected that women who can negotiate safer sex will use contraception. However, not all contraceptive users have the ability to negotiate safer sex, and there is no evidence that all non-users are unable to negotiate safer sex with partners. This study aims to assess the prevalence of women's ability to negotiate safer sex and examine the determinants of this ability among contraceptive users and non-users. The findings suggest that the ability to negotiate safer sex differs between these two groups, and new strategies promoting reproductive autonomy are needed for contraceptive users.

Severity of Lifetime Physical Intimate Partner Violence and Controlling Behavior in Sub-Saharan Africa

Summary: Evidence suggests that women in sub-Saharan Africa are more likely to experience intimate partner violence than women in other parts of the world. A study conducted in seven countries in sub-Saharan Africa between 2011 and 2015 found that women who reported controlling behavior by a spouse/partner were more likely to have experienced both less severe and severe lifetime physical violence.

Verbal and psychological violence against women in Turkey and its determinants

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the factors influencing verbal and psychological violence against women in Turkey. The findings revealed that women whose husbands or partners cheated and used alcohol were more likely to experience verbal and psychological violence. Women who had been exposed to physical, economic, and sexual violence were also more likely to be subjected to verbal and psychological violence. Exposure to violence by first-degree relatives increased the likelihood of experiencing verbal and psychological violence.

Prevalence of spousal violence among married women in a rural area in North Kerala

The Prevalence and Typologies of Controlling Behaviors in a General Population Sample

Summary: This study explored the prevalence and typologies of controlling behaviors in a general population sample. Findings showed relatively high prevalence, but low frequency and severity of these behaviors. Five clusters based on types of controlling behaviors were identified, with significant differences found between perpetration and victimization clusters and physical assault and psychological aggression. Further research is needed to understand when and how to prevent problematic controlling behaviors in relationships.
