Citizenship as mental health. A study protocol for a randomised trial of awareness interventions for mental health professionals

Summary: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the relationship between mental health and citizenship, and to help professionals understand mental health within the context of social rights and responsibilities. The study will explore the concept of citizenship with mental health service users, relatives, and professionals' organisations, develop awareness interventions, and evaluate their effect using qualitative analysis and multilevel mixed-effects linear models.

The public health implications of the cost-of-living crisis: outlining mechanisms and modelling consequences

Summary: The UK and other high-income countries are facing significant increases in living costs, which are exacerbating economic crises and posing threats to physical and mental health. Policy responses can either alleviate the impacts through welfare support or worsen the situation through austerity measures. This study examines the fundamental causes of the cost-of-living crisis, explores potential pathways through which it can affect population health, and uses a case study to demonstrate the potential impacts on a specific health outcome. The findings highlight the importance of targeted support for vulnerable households to protect health and mitigate health inequalities. With more integrated economic and health modeling, policymakers can better incorporate health considerations into their policies.

Developing and establishing the psychometric properties of the Strathclyde Citizenship Measure: A new measure for health and social care practice and research

A framework for implementing citizenship-based interventions has helped support the participation in society of persons who have experienced major life disruptions. The paper reports on the development and validation of the Strathclyde Citizenship Measure (SCM), a psychometrically sound measure of citizenship that is relevant to the Scottish context. The SCM was found to be reliable and valid, and the paper discusses its potential application in health and social care settings.

HSCWs with adaptive coping strategies and team resilience have better mental well-being, and they tend to seek informal support. Peer support, workplace supports, visible leadership, and teamwork are valued by HSCWs in maintaining mental well-being.
