COVID-19 Patients with Early Gastrointestinal Symptoms Show Persistent Deficits in Specific Attention Subdomains

Summary: Previous studies have found that COVID-19 inpatients experience attentional deficits upon discharge, but the impact of gastrointestinal symptoms (GIS) has not been examined. This study sought to determine whether COVID-19 patients with GIS display specific attention deficits, and which attention subdomain deficits differentiate patients with GIS and those without gastrointestinal symptoms (NGIS) from healthy controls. The presence of GIS was recorded upon admission, and COVID-19 inpatients and controls underwent a computerized visual attentional test. The results showed that patients with GIS exhibited significant attentional deficits compared to healthy controls, with variability of reaction time and omissions errors being the key differentiating factors.

Teleneuropsychology practice survey during COVID-19 within the United States

Summary: This study examined the impact of COVID-19 on service delivery changes and provider satisfaction with teleNP among licensed clinical neuropsychologists in the United States. The results showed that private practitioners had more concerns with privacy, legal issues, and legal/forensic cases compared to hospital or other medical practitioners, highlighting the complex decision-making process in adapting to service delivery changes. Barriers to continuing teleNP after COVID-19 included the need for improved teleNP norms, domain coverage, patient access to technology, and further validation studies.
