Summary: This study quantitatively evaluated the source term of a linear accelerator for a 6-20 MeV electron beam according to target thickness using MCNP6. Different thickness parameters were set to simulate a composite target and single target consisting of tungsten and copper. The results showed that the energy accumulation peaks varied depending on the target and energy, with less than 3% reference error. At 8 and 10 MeV, the movement of electrons and the proportion of escaped electrons were observed in a single target of copper.

Summary: The effect of intravascular injection of Iodine-131 (131I) on blood parameters for thyroid cancer treatment was investigated using the MCNPX code and Runge-Kutta fourth-order method. Simulation results showed that the accumulated absorbed dose due to normalized injection of 1 mCi of 131I was 1.97 x 10-2 Sv. The blood parameters varied with the injected 131I activity, with an activity of less than 150 mCi having minimal effect and an activity greater than 150 mCi reducing blood parameters by a maximum of 21.21% in a period of two to eight days. It is recommended to integrate the MCNPX code and Runge-Kutta fourth-order method for studying the effect of radiation exposure on blood parameters.

Summary: Radiation therapy (RT) plays a critical role in cancer treatment, with Adaptive RT (ART) being a novel method that utilizes computed tomography or magnetic resonance images for treatment adaptation. ART can impact various cancers, offering potential benefits from reducing toxicity to improving overall survival. The emerging MR-guided ART (MRgART) further advances adaptive image guidance, although it can be more costly, time-consuming, and complex compared to traditional ART methods.

Summary: Concrete is widely used as a radiation shielding material, and this study evaluates the effects of adding pistachio shell (PS) and date palm leaf (PL) as natural additives to improve neutron shielding properties. Numerical studies using MCNP code show that incorporating PS and PL additives in concrete can enhance shielding performance against fast and thermal neutrons.

Summary: The photoneutron reaction cross-sections of several isotopes were calculated using the TALYS 1.95 nuclear reaction code. The energy range chosen corresponds to both the giant dipole resonance region and the energy range used in radiotherapy. Different phenomenological level density models were used, and the most suitable model for each reaction was chosen based on relative variance calculations. The calculated data was compared with experimental data, showing reasonable agreement.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the photoneutron dose equivalent produced in a motorized wedge field and open field of 10 MV and 15 MV photon beams in Elekta Versa HD (TM) linac. The results showed that the PNDE values were higher in 20 x 20 cm(2) than 10 x 10 cm(2) field sizes, and the 60 degrees wedge fields generated higher photoneutron contamination compared to the 45 degrees, 30 degrees wedge fields, and open fields.

Summary: This study introduces a new method for calculating C-14 activity using the THGEM detector in SQS mode, which obtains the correlation between C-14 activity and the number of SQS light in THGEM holes through Monte Carlo simulation and measurement. The results show that the THGEM detector is suitable for determining C-14 activity in existing organisms and plants.

Summary: This paper proposes a mathematical model to estimate the X-ray dose rate of electron linacs, by simulating and linearly fitting the radiation dose due to bremsstrahlung for different thicknesses of tungsten targets and electron energies. The comparison between simulated and estimated dose rates shows an average absolute percentage error of approximately 3%, with a maximum error of 8%, indicating the accuracy and reliability of the model in estimating X-ray dose rates.

Summary: In this study, the effects of secondary radiation damage caused by proton radiation therapy were investigated by simulating a proton beam irradiating a hypothetical breast tumor. The absorbed doses to the tumor and scattering radiation doses to other organs were calculated, showing that the scattered neutron dose near the breast can be negligible under certain conditions. A spread-out Bragg peak was obtained using weighted combinations of beams of different energies, which can replace modulator wheel design. The majority of scattered radiation was found to be neutrons, and spectral powers for neutrons and photons were plotted, showing different distributions for different energy beams.
