IonMonger 2.0: software for free, fast and versatile simulation of current, voltage and impedance response of planar perovskite solar cells

Will Clarke et al.

Summary: This paper presents the second generation of the open-source MATLAB-based software tool IonMonger, which is used to solve drift-diffusion models of charge transport in planar perovskite solar cells. The updated version improves stability, adds the ability to simulate impedance spectroscopy measurements and transient voltage and/or illumination protocols, and is fully backwards compatible with the original version. Additionally, IonMonger Lite has been added to make the software more accessible to a wider user base.

Summary: By using 3D-FDTD method, the optical plasmonic properties of adding nanostructure to the buffer/active layer of organic solar cells were studied. It was found that Al and Ag nanostructures can improve the performance of organic solar cells, especially through the near-field effect. Al nanostructured sample showed less parasitic absorption loss compared to Au and relative Ag.

Assessing the quality of the excess chemical potential flux scheme for degenerate semiconductor device simulation

Dilara Abdel et al.

Summary: The study compares different numerical discretization schemes for current flows in (non-)degenerate semiconductor devices, as well as a diffusion-enhanced scheme that modifies the thermal voltage through flux approximation. By analyzing and visualizing errors in local flux approximations, the study extends previous discussions and conducts drift-diffusion simulations of a p-i-n device.

Modelling charge transport in perovskite solar cells: Potential-based and limiting ion depletion

Dilara Abdel et al.

Summary: By deriving a drift-diffusion model for charge transport in perovskite solar cells from Maxwell-Stefan diffusion and general electrostatics, we introduce flexibility in choosing mobile or immobile ions in the perovskite layer. Unlike other models, ours is based on quasi Fermi potentials, allowing for nonlinear diffusion and ion depletion limitation. Different statistics can be used for different species, and the importance of limiting ion depletion is highlighted through numerical finite volume simulations.

Illumination Intensity Dependence of the Recombination Mechanism in Mixed Perovskite Solar Cells

Alejandra Castro-Chong et al.

Summary: An abrupt change in the apparent ideality factor in high-efficiency mesoscopic perovskite solar cells is reported in this study, with the transition likely due to a modification of the concentration of ionic vacancies and a concurrent change in recombination mechanism. The drift-diffusion simulations show that the apparent ideality factor is influenced by the ion vacancy concentration, suggesting that a procedure based on the electronic ideality factor obtained from impedance spectrum analysis is more suitable for determining the dominant recombination route.

Summary: The Fermi-Dirac statistics is used to consider degenerate effects in organic diodes, with analytical solutions obtained for the current-voltage relationship and carrier density. The mobility model is improved and applied to analyze six organic diodes, showing good agreement between theoretical results and experimental data. Two materials are found to be degenerate while degenerate effects near the anode region cannot be neglected for four other materials.
