We're all we got is each other: Mixed-methods analysis of patient-caregiver dyads' management of heart failure

Katie E. Nelson et al.

Summary: This study compares the impact of caregiver burden and resilience on dyadic congruence in caregivers of patients with heart failure. The study identifies two key themes: caregivers' tendency to take the lead and the usefulness of cognitive reframing. The findings emphasize the importance of tailored interventions to improve the quality of life for informal caregivers and enhance their ability to support patients with heart failure.

Older adult participation in cancer clinical trials: A systematic review of barriers and interventions

Mina S. Sedrak et al.

Summary: Cancer is a disease of aging, and the number of older patients with cancer is increasing. However, older patients are underrepresented in cancer research and effective strategies to improve their participation in clinical trials are sparse. Studies on barriers and interventions for older adults in cancer trials are limited, highlighting a need for more evidence-based solutions to address this issue.

The influence of dyadic congruence and satisfaction with dyadic type on patient self-care in heart failure

Andrew Bugajski et al.

Summary: By analyzing data from 277 dyads, this study found that dyadic congruence is associated with better patient self-care maintenance, symptom perception, and management. However, after constructing multilevel models, dyadic congruence was found to be a significant predictor of patient symptom perception, but not self-care maintenance or management. Caregiver's satisfaction with the dyad is significantly associated with patient self-care.

Talking Around It A Qualitative Study Exploring Dyadic Congruence in Managing the Uncertainty of Living With a Ventricular Assist Device

Lyndsay G. DeGroot et al.

Summary: In managing the uncertainty of living with VADs, patients and caregivers have different perspectives, especially regarding uncertainty and end of life. They show more congruence in defining meaning or quality of life. Dyadic perspectives on end of life, meaning in life, and quality of life can provide guidance for shared decision-making.

Patient and physician perspectives on engaging in palliative and healthcare trials: a qualitative descriptive study

Valeria Cardenas et al.

Summary: Patients and caregivers face challenges such as time constraints, privacy concerns, lack of research familiarity, disconnect with research institution, self-perceived health status, and concerns with study randomization during research recruitment. Physicians identified time constraints and study randomization as major barriers to research involvement. Recommendations from patients and caregivers included in-person recruitment, recruitment at healthcare providers' offices, recruitment via mail, additional study information, and frequent calls, while physicians suggested the placement of flyers at clinics, financial incentives, and formal events.

Demographic and Health Behavior Factors Associated With Clinical Trial Invitation and Participation in the United States

Courtney P. Williams et al.

Summary: The study findings suggest that person-level demographic and clinical characteristics may influence invitation to and participation in clinical trials. Further research is needed to explore strategies for increasing trial invitation and participation rates across diverse patient populations to ensure equitable translation of clinical benefits from research to practice.

Patterns of Dyadic Appraisal of Decision-Making Involvement of African American Persons Living With Dementia

Kalisha Bonds et al.

Summary: The study found a relationship between appraisal of decision-making involvement and quality of life in African American dementia dyads, identifying three distinct patterns. PLWDs in the Congruent, PLWD High Involvement pattern were younger and had less cognitive impairment, while those in Incongruent patterns showed significant differences in quality of life. Further strategies may be needed to improve the quality of life for PLWDs in different appraisal patterns.
