Revisiting Fractional Cosmology

Bayron Micolta-Riascos et al.

Summary: Recently, researchers have been using fractional calculus to address cosmological problems by altering the gravitational action integral, comparing the resulting theory with observational data. By studying the phase spaces for different fractional order derivatives and matter contents, equilibrium points can be classified, providing a range for investigating cosmological history and obtaining an accelerating power-law solution for the scale factor. This paper discusses the physical interpretation of these cosmological solutions and emphasizes the influence of fractional derivatives in a theory of gravity with a scalar field.

Kaniadakis-holographic dark energy: observational constraints and global dynamics

A. Hernandez-Almada et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate Kaniadakis-holographic dark energy by comparing it with observational data. By conducting a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis using cosmic chronometers, supernovae type Ia, and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations data, we find that the Kaniadakis parameter is constrained around zero, which is consistent with the standard Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Additionally, the present matter density parameter Omega((0))(m) is slightly smaller in the Kaniadakis scenario compared to the Lambda CDM model. Furthermore, we reconstruct the evolution of the Hubble, deceleration, and jerk parameters and extract the redshift of the deceleration-acceleration transition.

Observational constraints and dynamical analysis of Kaniadakis horizon-entropy cosmology

A. Hernandez-Almada et al.

Summary: We study the scenario of Kaniadakis horizon-entropy cosmology and find that it can alleviate the H-0 tension problem. The parameters of the model are constrained around the value where the standard Bekenstein-Hawking is recovered. Moreover, the scenario is statistically equivalent to the Λ cold dark matter one.

A Comprehensive Measurement of the Local Value of the Hubble Constant with 1 km s-1 Mpc-1 Uncertainty from the Hubble Space Telescope and the SH0ES Team

Adam G. Riess et al.

Summary: This study reports observations of Cepheid variables in the host galaxies of 42 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to calibrate the Hubble constant (H (0)). The observations were collected over four decades and significantly improved the precision of the direct determination of H (0). The study presented multiple verifications of Cepheid photometry and explored different analysis variants to assess the sensitivity of H (0) determination. The baseline result for H (0) was found to be 73.04 +/- 1.04 km s(-1) Mpc(-1).

Cosmology under the fractional calculus approach

Miguel A. Garcia-Aspeitia et al.

Summary: Fractional cosmology modifies General Relativity by changing the standard derivative to Caputo's fractional derivative. Constraints on this modification are estimated using observational data, and stability analysis is performed for different parameter values. The results support the idea of fractional cosmology and provide new insights into the dynamics of the Universe.

de Sitter fractional quantum cosmology

S. Jalalzadeh et al.

Summary: In this study, Riesz's fractional derivative is employed in the Wheeler-DeWitt equation to investigate the wave functions and probability distributions of a closed de Sitter geometry. The results show that the tunneling wave function prefers fractal dimensions less than 2.5 and an accelerated phase, while the no-boundary proposal suggests fractal dimensions close to 3 and a decelerated phase. Furthermore, in the (nontrivial compact) flat and open scenarios, a flat or an open universe is more likely to be favored in the fractional inflationary quantum universe.

Barrow Entropy Cosmology: an observational approach with a hint of stability analysis

Genly Leon et al.

Summary: This work investigates a cosmological model based on the modification of the entropy-area black hole relation proposed by Saridakis, using observational and dynamical system analysis. Through Bayesian analysis, constraints on free parameters are obtained, consistent with the standard cosmological paradigm. Additionally, a dynamical system analysis reveals a de Sitter solution at late times.

Stochastic gravitational-wave background in quantum gravity

Gianluca Calcagni et al.

Summary: Among the five cosmological quantum-gravity or quantum-gravity-inspired scenarios explored, only the non-local quantum gravity model is found to be unobservable, while the other models can achieve the strain sensitivity of DECIGO but not that of LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA, LISA or Einstein Telescope. Models with red-tilted spectra or exceptionally tiny quantum corrections are also found to be non-detectable.

Broadening quantum cosmology with a fractional whirl

S. M. M. Rasouli et al.

Summary: This article initially presents a brief summary of fractional quantum mechanics as a motivation for studying fractional quantum cosmology. It then concretely illustrates this application through a case study involving a model of stiff matter in a spatially flat homogeneous and isotropic universe. A new quantum cosmological solution with explicit fractional calculus implications is introduced and compared with the standard quantum cosmology setting.

Fractional-order derivatives in cosmological models of accelerated expansion

V. K. Shchigolev

Summary: This review highlights the application of fractional differential methods in cosmology, focusing on exact models of cosmological accelerated expansion and the introduction of fractional calculus in General Relativity. The motivation behind these studies is to address observational and theoretical challenges, with some exact solutions being particularly relevant for resolving the issue of cosmic accelerated expansion. These investigations are driven by rapid advancements in observational cosmology, enabling precision tests of fundamental physics at the scale of the observable Universe.

Classical and quantum gravity with fractional operators

Gianluca Calcagni

Summary: In this work, a class of perturbative theories of quantum gravity based on fractional operators is proposed, with the construction of classical actions and derivation of equations of motion for each theory. The study shows that unitarity and power-counting renormalizability do not coexist in these theories, although one-loop unitarity and finiteness are possible in some cases. One of the theories is found to be unitary and infrared-finite, serving as a ghost-free model with large-scale modifications of general relativity.

Prospecting black hole thermodynamics with fractional quantum mechanics

S. Jalalzadeh et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the potential broadening of our perspective on black hole thermodynamics through the framework of fractional quantum mechanics, focusing on a Schwarzschild configuration. The study found that alterations in specific observables, such as black hole mass spectrum, temperature, and entropy, are conveyed through a fractional parameter, alpha, with standard results recovered under certain limits. Additionally, the generalized entropy-area relation proposed by Tsallis, Cirto, and Barrow is discussed in terms of a fractional viewpoint.

Fractional dark energy: Phantom behavior and negative absolute temperature

Furthermore, the Planck constraints on the equation of state parameter provide upper limits on the allowed value of the ratio of the chemical potential to the temperature. Additionally, the investigation into the system of fractional dark energy particles with negative absolute temperatures reveals a connection between FDE and NAT when FDE is composed of fermions.

Running Hubble tension and a H0 diagnostic

C. Krishnan et al.

Summary: Hubble tension refers to the mismatch between the locally determined Hubble constant H-0 and the value inferred from flat CDM cosmology. This tension arises from cosmological origins and predicts variations in H-0, potentially related to differences between the FLRW cosmology framework and the standard model. An introduced diagnostic can track these variations in H-0.

Fractional dark energy

Ricardo G. Landim

Summary: This paper introduces the fractional dark energy model, where the accelerated expansion of the Universe is driven by a nonrelativistic gas with a noncanonical kinetic term, mimicking the energy density of the cosmological constant. The inverse momentum operator appears in fractional quantum mechanics and is the inverse of the Riesz fractional derivative. The observed vacuum energy can be obtained through the Fermi-Dirac (or Bose-Einstein) distribution and the lowest allowed energy of the particles.
