Temperature profile and thermal piston component of photoacoustic response calculated by the fractional dual-phase-lag heat conduction theory

A. Somer et al.

Summary: We propose temperature distribution predictions for photothermal systems by extending the dual-phase lag approach. This extension incorporates fractional dual-phase lag from kinetic relaxation time into the GCE-II and GCE-III models. By solving a one-dimensional problem with planar and periodic excitation, we obtain the temperature distribution and Photoacoustic (PA) signal for transmission setups. Furthermore, we analyze the effects of fractional order derivatives and kinetic relaxation time. The derived models show promising results in explaining the experimentally observed behavior of PA signals measured on thin films with an inhomogeneous internal structure.

Photoacoustic Analysis of Illuminated Si-TiO2 Sample Bending Along the Heat-Flow Axes

S. M. Aleksic et al.

Summary: This paper describes the influence of a thin transparent film on the thermal and elastic characteristics of a two-layer sample consisting of a silicon substrate and thin TiO2 film. Through analysis of photoacoustic signals, it was found that the thin film significantly changes the thermal state of the substrate and increases its bending. The relationships between the thermoelastic component, displacement along the heat flux axis, and the difference in carrier density and temperatures on different sides of the sample were also described. It has been shown that adding a thin transparent film can effectively reduce the influence of photogenerated carriers in the silicon substrate, especially on its flexibility, and efficiently restore it.

Enhancement of the thermoelastic component of the photoacoustic signal of silicon membranes coated with a thin TiO2 film

D. K. Markushev et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reduction of the influence of photogenerated charge carriers in periodically illuminated thin silicon membranes. It is found that the deposition of a titanium dioxide thin film can increase the thermoelastic component of the photoacoustic signal and restore the flexibility of the membrane. The effect is more significant in thinner membranes.

Optically induced temperature variations in a two-layer volume absorber including thermal memory effects

M. N. Popovic et al.

Summary: This study derived a theoretical model of temperature variations for a two-layer optically absorbing structure, taking into account thermal memory effects. The model considers both layers as volume absorbers of the incident light and accounts for the thermal memory properties of both layers. The model provides expressions for surface temperature variations and is particularly relevant for understanding the photothermal and photoacoustic response in experiments.

Photoacoustic thermal characterization of low thermal diffusivity thin films

K. Herrmann et al.

Summary: The photoacoustic measurement technique is a powerful method for characterizing thermal transport properties of thin films, particularly in isotropic low thermal diffusivity samples. Significant influence of thermal effusivity, thermal diffusivity, and sample layer thickness on the measurement accuracy is discussed. The method allows for direct extraction of thermal conductivity without separate determination of heat capacity when appropriate boundary conditions are met.
