A Novel Passive Shoulder Exoskeleton Designed With Variable Stiffness Mechanism

Felix Balser et al.

Summary: With the increasing aging population and extended working period, exoskeletons are considered helpful in preventing occupational injuries and providing assistance for physically demanding tasks. This letter introduces a novel compact passive exoskeleton designed to assist the elderly and workers with overhead tasks. The exoskeleton consists of a spherical shoulder mechanism and a variable stiffness mechanism to compensate for gravity forces. Numerical, analytical, and experimental analyses are conducted to compare the performance of the variable stiffness mechanism. The final design, capable of compensating for 50% of the gravitational torque of the arm with the elbow stretched, is validated through experimental testing.

A New Exoskeleton Robot for Human Motion Assistance

Ionut Geonea et al.

Summary: This paper presents studies on the kinematics and dynamics of a new robotic system of the exoskeleton type to assist human locomotion. Based on previous achievements, an original robotic system solution was designed and a virtual model was created using SolidWorks design software. The technical feasibility of the proposed solution for assisting the locomotion of people with disabilities was proven through motion simulation and manufacturing of the robotic system.

Design of a 3D-Printed Hand Exoskeleton Based on Force-Myography Control for Assistance and Rehabilitation

Daniele Esposito et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel hand exoskeleton that is low cost, wearable, easily adaptable, and suitable for home use. The exoskeleton utilizes a single actuator to synergically move the four fingers and can be customized based on the patient's muscle condition. An inexpensive microcontroller board is used for electronic control, and the exoskeleton's ability to provide a fluid and safe grip is validated through kinematic analyses.
