Genome-wide characterization and expression of DELLA genes in Cucurbita moschata reveal their potential roles under development and abiotic stress

Weirong Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, the CmoDELLA gene family in pumpkin was investigated in terms of their physical and chemical properties, gene structure, cis-regulatory elements, and expression patterns. Seven CmoDELLA genes were identified in pumpkin, and their proteins were relatively unstable and mainly formed by alpha-helix and random coil. Cis-regulatory elements analysis indicated that CmoDELLA genes play a critical role in regulating plant growth and development, as well as responding to stress in pumpkin. The expression patterns under different abiotic stresses suggested that CmoDELLA genes mediate the stress response of pumpkin to NaCl, waterlogging, and cold, but with varied functions.

The DELLA-ABI4-HY5 module integrates light and gibberellin signals to regulate hypocotyl elongation

Haibo Xiong et al.

Summary: Plant growth is regulated by light and gibberellin (GA) signals, which have opposite effects on hypocotyl elongation. This study reveals that GA promotes hypocotyl elongation through the activation of ABI4. DELLAs interact with ABI4 and inhibit its DNA-binding activity, while ABI4 interacts with HY5, a key factor in light signaling, to regulate the expression of GA catabolism genes and modulate GA levels, thus controlling hypocotyl elongation.

The O2-ZmGRAS11 transcriptional regulatory network orchestrates the coordination of endosperm cell expansion and grain filling in maize

Chen Ji et al.

Summary: The study identified a specific protein, ZmGRAS11, in maize endosperm that promotes cell expansion and is essential for grain filling. The results suggest that endosperm cell expansion is coordinated with endosperm filling, and regulated by the O2-ZmGRAS11-centered transcriptional regulatory network. These findings provide potential targets for improving maize yield by increasing the storage capacity of endosperm cells.

A hierarchical transcriptional network activates specific CDK inhibitors that regulate G2 to control cell size and number in Arabidopsis

Yuji Nomoto et al.

Summary: The transcription factor SCL28 plays a critical role in regulating cell size and number during organ development by interacting with the transcription factor AtSMOS1 and promoting the transcription of SIAMESE-RELATED genes. This hierarchical transcriptional network allows for the precise control of cell size and number, leading to robust organ growth.

Origin, evolution, and molecular function of DELLA proteins in plants

Huidan Xue et al.

Summary: Gibberellic acid (GA) is a widespread plant hormone that influences plant growth and development through interactions with regulators such as DELLA proteins. The interactions between GA and DELLAs play a crucial role in promoting growth and regulating the responses of plants to various hormones, contributing to the overall growth and development of plants.

Plant buffering against the high-light stress-induced accumulation of CsGA2ox8 transcripts via alternative splicing to finely tune gibberellin levels and maintain hypocotyl elongation

Bin Liu et al.

Summary: In response to environmental stresses, plants induce alternative splicing to generate multiple transcripts, allowing for fine-tuning of gibberellin levels. The study identified a novel transcript of the gibberellin-deactivating enzyme CsGA2ox8 and demonstrated that different isoforms play distinct roles in deactivating bioactive GAs. Expression analysis showed that under different light intensities, the transcripts of CsGA2ox8 were upregulated at varying rates, suggesting a regulatory mechanism through alternative splicing in plants.

The Arabidopsis GRAS-type SCL28 transcription factor controls the mitotic cell cycle and division plane orientation

Camila Goldy et al.

Summary: Gene expression is rapidly reconfigured during the cell cycle to carry out specific cellular functions for each phase. The use of fluorescence-activated cell sorting allowed for analysis of gene expression profile in G2/M cells in the growing root and identification of key regulatory factors. SCL28, a transcription factor, was found to play a crucial role in promoting progression through G2/M and modulating cell division plane selection.

Lucas Lang et al.

Summary: DNA damage can reduce plant growth and cell proliferation, and the interaction among RBR1, NAC044, and DREAM components play important roles in mediating growth arrest after DNA damage in plants. Multiple DREAM complexes exist and work together with NAC044 to regulate the response to DNA damage.
