Impact of routine preoperative sonographic screening with early intervention for deep venous thrombosis in lower extremities on preventing postoperative venous thromboembolism in patients with gastric cancer scheduled for minimally invasive surgery

Kazumitsu Suzuki et al.

Summary: Preoperative screening for DVT using lower-extremity ultrasonography followed by preoperative anticoagulant therapy can effectively reduce the incidence of VTE after minimally invasive surgery for gastric cancer. Age over 70 years, female sex, and positive serum D-dimer were significant independent risk factors for preoperative DVT. The incidence of symptomatic postoperative VTE was very low.

Trends and Risk Factors for Venous Thromboembolism Among Hospitalized Medical Patients

Elad Neeman et al.

Summary: This study examines the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of hospital-associated venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) using a retrospective analysis of electronic health records. The results show that HA-VTE events occurred in 1.2% of medical admissions and increased over time, leading to adverse outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of implementing strategies to prevent and manage HA-VTE.
