Review on Canine Oral Melanoma: An Undervalued Authentic Genetic Model of Human Oral Melanoma?

Stefano Di Palma et al.

Summary: Oral melanoma is a highly aggressive tumor in both humans and dogs, with similarities in disease traits suggesting that canine melanoma may serve as a good model for the human disease. However, further comparative studies are needed to confirm the shared mechanisms of tumorigenesis between canine and human oral melanomas. Future research should focus on identifying genetic alterations specific to metastatic disease in both species for potential targeted drug therapies.
