Studies on the tissue and water equivalence of some 3D printing materials and dosimeters

K. Srinivasan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the tissue/water equivalent properties of various biological tissues and materials, finding that these properties vary with photon energy and elemental composition. Several dosimeters, 3D printing materials, and gels showed tissue/water equivalence properties. The results provide guidance for selecting suitable materials and dosimeters in radiation medicine.

PAGAT gel dosimetry for everyone: gel production, measurement and evaluation

A. Elter et al.

Summary: Polymer gel dosimetry is a useful tool for measuring complex dose distributions in 3D with high spatial resolution, but is rarely used in quality assurance procedures globally due to complex protocols and high costs. This study introduces a standardized method for conducting dosimetric experiments using PAGAT gel fabricated under atmospheric conditions, allowing for cost-effective production and evaluation using MRI.

Application of radiochromic gel dosimetry to commissioning of a megavoltage research linear accelerator for small-field animal irradiation studies

Noora Ba Sunbul et al.

Summary: The study developed and implemented an efficient and accurate commissioning procedure for small-field static beam animal irradiation studies using radiochromic gel dosimetry on an MV research linear accelerator. Various dosimetry tools were used to perform relative dosimetry measurements, resulting in confirmation of absolute dosimetry within 1.4% and agreement of the relative output factor measurements with a maximum difference of 4.3%. Radiochromic gel dosimeters were found to be efficient for full relative dosimetry commissioning in high-energy small-field animal irradiation studies.

Gellan gum gel tissue phantoms and gel dosimeters with tunable electrical, mechanical and dosimetric properties

Pawel Brzozowski et al.

Summary: Gellan gum gels are proposed as tissue and water mimicking materials for medical imaging and radiotherapy dosimetry. Additives such as lithium and tetramethylammonium chloride are used to induce electrical conductivity while maintaining optical clarity, with lithium formate and methylparaben serving as radical scavenger and antimicrobial additives. Through experiments and modeling, the electrical and mechanical properties as well as liquid expulsion properties of the gels were studied. The addition of a radiation-sensitive tetrazolium salt allowed the production of dosimeters with favorable properties for tissue phantoms and dosimeters.
