Emergent Kagome Electrides

Jing-Yang You et al.

Summary: A method to achieve ideal Kagome bands in non-Kagome materials has been proposed by confining excess electrons in the crystal interstitial sites to form a 2D Kagome lattice. Two novel stable 2D Kagome electrides in hexagonal materials Li5Si and Li5Sn have been predicted, with band structures similar to ideal Kagome bands and featuring topological Dirac cones, van Hove singularities, and a flat band. Additionally, Li5Si has been found to be a low-temperature superconductor at ambient pressure.

Layer-Dependent Magnetic Domains in Atomically Thin Fe5GeTe2

Ryuji Fujita et al.

Summary: The formation of magnetic domains in two-dimensional materials is of great interest for understanding the fundamental origins of 2D magnetism and for the development of advanced spintronics devices. However, studying magnetic domains in atomically thin van der Waals flakes remains challenging. In this study, layer-resolved imaging of the domain structures in the vdW ferromagnet Fe5GeTe2 was performed using X-ray photoemission electron microscopy (XPEEM). The results showed that the domain structures vary with the thickness of the flakes, indicating the potential of stabilizing complex spin textures in 2D vdW magnets at relatively high temperatures.

Two-dimensional half Chern-Weyl semimetal with multiple screw axes

Wei Xu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a special topological semimetal phase called a 2D half Chern-Weyl semimetal (HCWS), which is a 2D magnetic Weyl semimetal bound to the half Chern insulator phase by symmetry. The paper provides the symmetry conditions to realize this state in 2D systems with multiple screw axes. Concrete examples and a predicted 2D material, monolayer TiTe, are shown for HCWSs. The work reveals a state with switchable and spin-resolved half-body charge currents as well as half-boundary charge currents and has implications for novel topological spintronics devices.

Tunable Weyl half-semimetals in two-dimensional iron-based materials MFeSe (M = Tl, In, Ga)

Hao Huan et al.

Summary: Layered iron chalcogenide materials have recently attracted attention due to their high-temperature superconductivity. However, topological phases are rarely proposed in these materials. In this study, we predict the existence of 100% spin-polarized Weyl semimetals in two-dimensional TlFeSe and GaFeSe monolayers, based on density-functional theory calculations and symmetry analysis. The Weyl fermions in these monolayers are protected by nonsymmorphic symmetry. Additionally, we find that the InFeSe monolayer is a quantum anomalous Hall insulator.

Origin of Metallic Nature of Na3N

Hiroshi Mizoguchi et al.

Summary: This study found that the anti-ReO3-type compound Na3N exhibits metallic nature due to the presence of a crystallographic cavity causing the collapse of the bandgap and the formation of a wide Na 3s conduction band. Na3N is a unique nitride with an electronically active cavity space.
