Summary: The study investigated the use of vortical casting to prevent the agglomeration of alumina nanoparticles in molten aluminum, with a focus on the influence of strontium as a reformer material on the microstructure of the composite substrate. Results showed that the optimal amount of strontium for modifying the eutectic structure of silicon and improving the wettability of the A356 alloy is 0.5%. Higher amounts of strontium led to the formation of intermetallic Al2Si2Sr particles, with the highest reported strength at 191 MPa.

Tribological characterization of LM26/SiC/Ni.-Gr. Hybrid aluminium matrix composites (HAMCs) for high temperature applications

Suyash Y. Pawar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tribological characteristics of the hybrid composite material LM26/SiC/Ni.-Gr. under different temperature conditions. It was found that the hybridization of hard and soft reinforcements improved the composite's tribological and mechanical performance under high temperature sliding wear conditions. Load and temperature were identified as primary factors affecting the performance of both pure aluminum alloys and hybrid composites, with low wear loss and friction coefficient observed in high-temperature wear tests. The LM26 + 20% SiC + 2%Ni.-Gr. hybrid composite showed the highest improvement in tribological performance, with SEM analysis indicating increased wear resistance.
