Digital Technologies and Sustainability Assessment: A Critical Review on the Integration Methods between BIM and LEED

Stefano Cascone

Summary: This paper aims to analyze the possible synergies between LEED and BIM in sustainable development and parametric design. Different integration methods, such as plug-in development and third-party software information exchange, were reviewed. The advantages and limitations of these integration strategies were discussed, and the potential of using a visual programming language was explored.

Analysis of BIM-Based Digitising of Green Building Index (GBI): Assessment Method

Mohmed Solla et al.

Summary: There is a growing demand for the integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) into green projects. BIM can assess green building assessment tools by digitising and evaluating buildings during their development stage. In Malaysia, the Green Building Index (GBI) promotes sustainability in the built environment through six categories of criteria assessed in three certification stages. This study explores how BIM applications can digitise GBI criteria and define the roles of construction stakeholders in using BIM for assessing new non-residential building construction based on GBI.

Barriers to BIM-Based Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment for Buildings: An Interpretive Structural Modelling Approach

Adetayo Onososen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the interrelatedness of the barriers to integrating BIM in buildings sustainability assessment using the interpretive structural modelling approach. The categorization of adoption barriers through the MICMAC analysis allows for discussions on the challenges of BIM-based life cycle assessment and the development of policies and design decisions to drive the process further.
