N-Type Polyoxadiazole Conductive Polymer Binders Derived High-Performance Silicon Anodes Enabled by Crosslinking Metal Cations

Zhaomei Sun et al.

Summary: This study investigated metal-ion crosslinked polyoxadiazole (POD) as silicon anode binders, and found that the ionic radius and valence state significantly influence the polymer's mechanical properties and the electrolyte's infiltration. Calcium (Ca)-crosslinked POD showed excellent mechanical strength and improved cycling stability of the silicon anode. The cell with Ca-POD binder retained a capacity of 1770.1 mA h g(-1) after 100 cycles at 0.2 C, which is 285% higher than that of the cell with the PAALi binder (620.6 mA h g(-1)). This novel strategy using metal-ion crosslinking polymer binders provides a new pathway for high-performance binders in next-generation rechargeable batteries.

Photo-Initiated in situ synthesis of polypyrrole Fe-Coated porous silicon microspheres for High-performance Lithium-ion battery anodes

Zeyu Xu et al.

Summary: A simple and environmentally friendly photoinitiated fabrication approach is designed to synthesize yolk-shell like polypyrrole-iron coated porous silicon microspheres (PSi@PPy-Fe) as anode materials for LIBs based on the photoelectric effect of semiconductor silicon. The polymerization of pyrrole monomers only occurs on the interface of silicon matrix where the vacancies are available, effectively avoiding the production of free PPy-Fe particles. XPS and first-principles calculations reveal the formation of hydrogen-bond interaction and covalent linkage between Si and PPy-Fe layer, which is important for maintaining good contact and strengthening structure stability.
