Dual-catalytic colorimetric biosensor based on double-active Fe@Co-N stellate porous carbon and DNAzyme for simultaneous detection of tetracycline antibiotics

Deyan Xu et al.

Summary: Colorimetry is limited by low sensitivity and high background signal in its application. This study developed a Fe@Co-N stellate porous carbon nanoenzyme with a large specific surface area, which contained Fe-N and cobalt double peroxide active sites. A colorimetric biosensor with a low background signal and ultra-sensitive detection of tetracyclines based on a shared structure was successfully constructed. The developed strategy achieved highly sensitive detection of low concentrations of antibiotics, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.333 ng/mL (S/N = 3), indicating its potential for simultaneous detection of multiple tetracyclines.

Advances in bovine serum albumin-protected gold nanoclusters: from understanding the formation mechanisms to biological applications

Lizhen Chen et al.

Summary: Fluorescent gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) are a promising material in nanobiotechnology due to their small size, fluorescence properties, and biocompatibility. Bovine serum albumin (BSA)-protected Au NCs have been extensively used for various biological applications. This review focuses on the synthesis, structural analysis, and biological applications of BSA-protected Au NCs, including their top-down and bottom-up synthesis approaches, characterization techniques, synthesis mechanisms, and applications in bioimaging, biosensing, biocatalysis, and drug delivery. The current challenges and future potential of fluorescent BSA-Au NCs in controllable synthesis and biological research are also discussed.

The construction of molecularly imprinted electrochemical biosensor for selective glucose sensing based on the synergistic enzyme-enzyme mimic catalytic system

Yujun Cheng et al.

Summary: It has been found that glucose oxidase can catalyze diverse monosaccharides, which compromises the accuracy of glucose biosensors. In this study, multifunctional bi-nanospheres were constructed and used as a platform to immobilize large amounts of glucose oxidase probes. The biosensors obtained using this method showed selective glucose detection with high sensitivity.

Carbon nanotubes/polyethylenimine/glucose oxidase as a non-invasive electrochemical biosensor performs high sensitivity for detecting glucose in saliva

Nyan-Hwa Tai et al.

Summary: In this research, a novel electrode was developed for noninvasive glucose sensing, which can determine glucose levels in saliva. The electrode consists of carbon nanotubes grown on a fluorine-doped tin oxide coated glass substrate, with glucose oxidase immobilized using polyethylenimine. The electrode demonstrated enhanced charge transferability and stable immobilization of glucose oxidase. It exhibited fast electron transfer rate, short electron transfer distance, and high sensitivity and stability towards glucose in artificial saliva. This research shows great potential for practical applications.
