Recently, ionic liquids have been used to compatibilize polymer blends. This brief review focuses on two types of ionic liquids, imidazolium-based and phosphonium-based, as compatibilizing agents in polymer blends. The preparation methods for polymer blends are discussed, and the effects of ionic liquids on the chemical, mechanical, and thermal properties of the blends are reviewed. This information contributes to a better understanding of the preparation and crucial properties of polymer blends compatibilized with ionic liquids.
