Kinetics of hydrogen reduction of magnetite concentrate particles at 1623-1873 K relevant to flash ironmaking

Mohamed Elzohiery et al.

Summary: The reduction of magnetite concentrate particles by H2 was studied in a drop-tube reactor (DTR) to obtain a rate equation applicable to the design and analysis of an ironmaking flash reactor. The study found that full reduction of the magnetite concentrate required a residence time greater than 4 seconds and H2 partial pressure of 0.15 atm. Computational fluid dynamics analysis was used to improve the accuracy of the rate expressions, which were best described by the nucleation and growth model with an Avrami parameter n = 1 and first-order dependence on H2 partial pressure.

The kinetics of carbon monoxide reduction of magnetite concentrate particles through CFD modelling

De-Qiu Fan et al.

Summary: By investigating the kinetics of CO reduction of magnetite concentrate particles in drop-tube reactors, the effect of temperature and CO partial pressure on the reduction reaction process was determined. Reduction degrees of magnetite concentrate were less than 50% below 1623K, but significantly higher at higher temperatures. Computational fluid dynamics analysis was used to improve the accuracy of the rate expressions.

Design of Novel Flash Ironmaking Reactors for Greatly Reduced Energy Consumption and CO2 Emissions

Hong Yong Sohn et al.

Summary: The simulation work on the novel flash ironmaking technology demonstrated the feasibility of using a reasonably sized reactor, with possibilities for improving production rates. Design considerations include minimizing particle-wall collisions and utilizing a large diameter-to-height ratio to reduce heat loss.

Rate-enhancement effect of CO in magnetite concentrate particle reduction by H2+CO mixtures

Deqiu Fan et al.

Summary: The kinetics of reduction of magnetite concentrate particles by H-2+CO mixtures were studied at different temperatures, showing that the reduction efficiency is influenced by temperature and gas ratio. At high temperatures, the fusion and melting of concentrate particles alter the reduction mechanism. Synergistic effects were observed in the reduction process, highlighting the importance of considering gas mixture interactions in ironmaking processes.
