Exploring of antioxidant and antibacterial properties of novel 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives: Facile synthesis, structural elucidation and DFT approach to antioxidant characteristics

Halit Muglu et al.

Summary: Compounds containing thiophene and 1,3,4-thiadiazole skeletons have been synthesized and characterized, showing inhibitory activities against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Additionally, compound 1 exhibited the highest antioxidant activity among the tested compounds. Calculations at the B3lyp/6-311++g(2d,2p) level were used to examine the antioxidant activity of the compounds.

Towards modulating the colour hues of isoindigo-based electrochromic polymers through variation of thiophene-based donor groups

Ming Hui Chua et al.

Summary: Conjugated polymers containing isoindigo electron acceptor groups have shown potential for electrochromic applications. By synthesizing a series of isoindigo-based conjugated polymers with different donor units, researchers have studied their electrochromic properties. The colors of the polymers in both neutral and oxidized states can be tuned through variation of the donor groups. Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene as a donor unit exhibits the highest coloration efficiency among all reported isoindigo-based electrochromic polymers. The structure-property relationships of these polymers have been investigated, providing valuable insights for the development of high-performance electrochromic polymers based on isoindigo acceptor groups.

Preparation, antioxidant activity, and theoretical studies on the relationship between antioxidant and electronic properties of bis(thio/carbohydrazone) derivatives

Halit Muglu et al.

Summary: A series of novel bis(thio/carbohydrazone) compounds were synthesized and their structures were elucidated using various spectroscopic techniques. The compounds exhibited antioxidant activity, with thiourea-based compounds showing better activity than urea-based compounds. Among them, compound 11 showed the highest antioxidant activity. DFT calculations were performed to analyze the electronic characteristics and bond properties of the compounds.

Summary: This study reports the design, synthesis, structural elucidation, and investigation of cytotoxic and antimicrobial activity, as well as the inhibition effects on butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzymes of isatinthiosemicarbazone hybrid compounds. The most potent inhibitor of both AChE and BChE was compound 13, and compound 8 exhibited the strongest cytotoxic activity on breast cancer cell lines. The hybridization of isatin and thiosemicarbazone skeleton played an essential role in the inhibition of enzymes and cytotoxic activity.
