The Role of Parenthood for Life Satisfaction of Older Women and Men in Europe

Summary: This paper examines the difference in well-being between parents and childless individuals in older age. The findings suggest that although parents have lower levels of life satisfaction, they are able to adapt and reach a similar level as childless individuals. Additionally, fathers tend to have a more positive reaction to health limitations compared to childless men, indicating that children may provide long-term positive effects on health for fathers.

Are You Happy? A Validation Study of a Tool Measuring Happiness

Summary: This study aims to assess the psychometric properties of the Measure of Happiness (MH), a new scale designed to measure experienced happiness, in a nonclinical sample of Italian adults. The study found that the MH has satisfactory psychometric properties and identified five dimensions related to experienced happiness. The validity of the scale was supported by confirming its structure through a multigroup factor analysis based on gender. The MH also showed convergent validity by demonstrating significant positive relationships with other measures of happiness and quality of life, and significant negative relationships with measures of anxiety and depression. The findings highlight the importance and potential applications of the MH in assessing experienced happiness.
