A novel four-gene of iron metabolism-related and methylated for prognosis prediction of hepatocellular carcinoma

Huimin Shen et al.

Summary: This study identified key prognostic factors of iron metabolism-related and methylated genes for HCC, and constructed a prognostic model to predict overall survival of patients. The risk score calculated using gene expression of specific DEGs was found to be an independent variable correlated with HCC prognosis, providing a potential treatment strategy for HCC.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Identification of Immune-Related Gene Signatures in Lung Adenocarcinoma and Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Na Li et al.

Summary: This study identified two reliable immune-related gene signature models that were significantly associated with prognosis and tumor microenvironment cell infiltration in LUAD and LUSC, respectively. Evaluation of these models could help predict response to immunotherapy and guide immunotherapy strategies.

Identification of hub genes associated with obesity-induced hepatocellular carcinoma risk based on integrated bioinformatics analysis

Hamid Ceylan

Summary: This study identified key genes (IGF1, ACADL, CYP2C9, and G6PD) involved in important metabolic pathways whose mRNA and protein expression levels are significantly altered in both obese individuals and patients with HCC, suggesting their potential as significant targets for the prevention and treatment of HCC development in obese individuals.

LncRNA XIST upregulates TRIM25 via negatively regulating miR-192 in hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma

Jiancheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that lncRNA XIST plays a role in HBV-related HCC by up-regulating TRIM25 expression through interaction with miR-192, ultimately promoting the occurrence and development of the disease.

Identification of ARHGEF38, NETO2, GOLM1, and SAPCD2 Associated With Prostate Cancer Progression by Bioinformatic Analysis and Experimental Validation

Zhuolun Sun et al.

Summary: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a common cancer in men, and its pathogenic mechanisms still require further investigation. This study aimed to construct a prognostic signature for PCa patients by identifying five genes (ARHGEF38, NETO2, PRSS21, GOLM1, and SAPCD2) associated with prognosis. The study also found that abnormal methylation patterns may be a potential mechanism for these genes in PCa, and functional experiments demonstrated their role as oncogenes that inhibit proliferation, migration, and invasiveness of PCa cells. The prognostic signature has clinical significance for treatment planning and prognostic evaluation of PCa patients.

hsa-miR-7-5p suppresses proliferation, migration and promotes apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines by inhibiting SPC24 expression

Yun Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that miR-7-5p is downregulated in HCC while SPC24 is upregulated. Upregulation of miR-7-5p can restrict malignant behaviors of HCC cells, but this inhibitory effect may be relieved by its target gene SPC24.

Construction and validation of a three-microRNA signature as prognostic biomarker in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Xi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study identified three miRNAs (miR-139-3p, miR-760, and miR-7-5p) as independent prognostic indicators for HCC through bioinformatics analysis and experimental validation. The three-miRNA signature showed high accuracy in predicting the overall survival of HCC patients.
